THE SITE
Campecolle Alto is located high on a hill in the Niccone valley
in western Umbria. It is part of a large property which includes
two other clusters, Palazzetto Colle and Chiocca, also described
on this website. The houses enjoy spectacular views of umbrian countryside
to all directions. Tuscany, the neighbouring region is only a few
km away and the nearby roads provide easy access to the medieval
cities in the area, Cortona, Gubbio, Assissi etc. Lake Trasimeno
with it's vacation resorts and water sport facilities is about 20
minutes away.
THE HOUSES
The original pattern of the cluster consists of a group of houses
and annexes scatterd around a commom area. Most of the original
buildings are two storys high, built of local stone with tiled roofs.
The general appearance of the buildings is typical to the vernacular
architerture of farm houses in Umbria. Originaly the ground floor
of these buildings was used for stables while the owners lived on
the upper floors. The architecture is characterized by few elements
of decoration and reflects well the down to earth way of life in
the area.
THE PROJECT
The idea of a common central area is kept in the restoration process
by developing the concept of a "piazza" where commom activities
can take place. The individual vacation units, however, are designed
to provide absolute privacy with all apartments, and the independent
vacation houses having a private entrance and outdoor sitting areas.
The origianl building's interior spaces are planned as 1-4 room
units with typical finishing materials and high level infrastructures.
There is flexibility in the interior subdivision and one can decide
to alter the interior according to personal needs.
COMMON AREAS
Apart from the central "piazza" where feasts and dinners can be
held the project envisions two parking areas for the owners and
their guests, a large swimmimg pool and green areas.
