THE HOUSE
The San Benedetto house is a medieval, two storey building: The
upper floor was for dwelling and the ground floor housed stabels.
The building has thick walls constructed with local stone, traditional
terracota tiles cover the roof. The general appearance of the
building is typical to the vernacular architecture of farm houses
in Umbria. It is very simple with few elements of decoration but
as a whole reflects well upon the down to earth traditional way
of life in the region.
THE PROJECT
During the restoration process the exterior of the house was kept
unchanged in order to preserve the architectural character of
the building. The interiors, however, were altered to accommodate
apartments of different sizes. The project includes the instalation
of modern infrastructure and traditional finishing materials for
the adaptation of the interior spaces. The division into independent
apartmens is flexible, and can be altered according to the clients
personal needs.
COMMON AREAS
The house is equipped with a swimming pool and commom outdoor
areas as shown in the site plan. There is a private gravel path
and an area for parking.
THE PLOT
The size of the plot is 17000 sqm. Most of it is agricultural
land which is cultivated by a local farmer. The rest is divided
into common and private outdoor areas, as illustrated in the plans.
